Derek Collins RIP

We have now heard the funeral arrangements for Derek who will be cremated in a private, non attended service on Thursday 31 March

There will be a wake at Gosport BC on Monday 4 April from 12.00pm to enable all his friends and colleagues the opportunity to meet and remember and celebrate the vast and varied bowling life of Derek - all anecdotes welcomed. To honour what I know would certainly be Derek’s wish in that we do not make a fuss for him and suggest the dress code should be casual. Dave Wildman, Area Secretary

Derek Collins RIP

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Derek Collins passed away this afternoon. Derek was a stalwart for Hampshire being involved for many many years, prior to many of us being involved with our sport

He was made a Life Vice President of the County for his services to the HCBA (Hampshire County Bowling Association), on unification he became an Honorary Life Member of Bowls Hampshire. He served on at least two separate occasions as Middleton Cup manager and was also Junior Manager and Safeguarding Officer. As Middleton Cup Manager he led the County as they won the Balcomb Trophy

He won the County triples in 1993 and served as Trustee of the Benevolent Fund. Indoors he was manager of the Liberty Trophy team leading Hampshire to the title. He was a past member of the EIBA Executive and a national selector. It is also understood he served as the England Men's Junior Team Manager

He will be missed by everyone who knew and worked with him. As soon as the details of his funeral are known they will be posted on the website. Our thoughts are with the family at this very sad time

Rosemary Corney Funeral Arrangements

We have now heard about the funeral arrangement s for Rosemary Corney. Her husband Steve has requested no black should be worn but he would be happy for any Hampshire bowlers who are attending to wear uniform and to form a 'ceremonial guard' outside the church as the coffin enters the church

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday 1st March at 11.00am at All Hallows Church, Whitchurch, followed by a wake at the Sports & Social Club. At 15:10pm the cars will leave for Basingstoke Crematorium for the internment. All are welcome to attend both services. The funeral can also be viewed online at - Username xezo5446, Password 719917

There will only be family flowers but donations can be made via this link

Rosemary Corney RIP

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Rosemary Corney passed away this afternoon in Winchester Hospital

Rosemary was President of Hampshire County Womens Bowls Association in 2009 as well as being the Match Secretary for many years. Following unification in 2011, Rosemary became the Bowls Hampshire Ladies’ Match Secretary right up to the 2021 AGM. In addition to this she was the Amy Rose Manager for a number of years assisting the juniors within the County

She represented Hampshire playing in both the Walker Cup and Johns Trophy and was part of the team which won the Johns Trophy in 2008 and 2011.  During her extensive playing career she won the England Womens Bowls Association 'Mother & Daughter' National title with her daughter Paula. Then in 2013 with her playing partner Brenda Plumpton won the Bowls England National Women's pairs title

Rosemary never gave up in her battle with cancer and her positivity, courage and cheerful attitude will be missed by us all. Our thoughts are with Steve and her family at this sad time
